Save the Date – SMiLES Closing Event
📅 Wednesday, July 2, 2025
📍 Het Paleis, Groningen (The Netherlands)

After nearly six years of close collaboration, it’s time to reflect and look ahead. On Wednesday, July 2, we warmly invite you to the closing event of the NWO-funded project SMiLES – Shared Connectivity in Mobility & Logistics Enabling Sustainability.

Over the past years, three research institutions, ten practice partners, and five governmental bodies have worked together on innovative solutions for sustainable mobility and logistics: from car sharing and hubs to drones, autonomous shuttles, folding bikes on trains, and circular charging using repurposed bus batteries. SMiLES has been a unique blend of interdisciplinary academic cooperation and hands-on experimentation throughout the Netherlands, with a strong foundation in the Northern region.

During this event, we’ll revisit key lessons, insights, and impacts from SMiLES and explore what lies ahead. The innovation center Hive.mobility, a key driver of smart and green mobility in the North, will also play an active role in the program.

Please mark the date in your calendar – the official invitation will follow soon.

If you are interested, please send a mail to smiles@rug.nl to keep you updated!

SMiLES is part of the Sustainable Living Labs research program that is (co-)financed by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management, the National Regional Agency for Practice-Oriented Research (SIA) and the Top Sector Logistics.
