Transport by water comes with additional challenges because it requires a good connection with land transport in order to provide a service that is economically viable but can also be delivered on time. In SMiLES we investigate the shared transport of webshop purchases from the mainland to the Wadden Islands. We are developing an integral sub-concept for the transport of passengers, luggage and/or cargo by land so that a connection is realized that connects to transport by water. This sub-concept takes into account the regional impact of these sub-initiatives, such as employment, environmental impact and infrastructural changes.
